Worship werkswinkel

Die afgelope naweek het Elriza ‘n werkswinkel aangebied vir die worshipspanlede van die Off the Island kerk en hier is haar terugvoer.

This Friday, we got together to learn about worship and also to practise our vocal cords a bit. We started off with some good old Kentucky Fried Chicken (breaking the golden rule of not eating anything greasy before you sing), but we sang anyhow. Our focus was on developing our diaphrams, with some breathing exercises, and that provided some comical results at times.

Then we got down to the more serious part, which was a study on what worship is. Often we sing worship songs and approach God like we are approaching the Mc. Donald's drive through, we don't really think about Him or what we saying to Him, "just the usual old stuff". But worship means that our lives are lived in a response to what God had done for us, and to who He is to us. That don't only happen on Fridays when we leading the congregation in song, but it should happen every second of every day. Worship is a lfestyle! For that we looked at Romans 12:1-2. Then we looked at our approach to a holy God in worship. From John 4, we saw that worshipping God requires that we do so in a way that would honour Him, through His Spirit in us, and through the truth of Jesus. It was a blessed time, and I pray for many more like these where we can learn to become all that God has created us to be, and that what we become would bring glory to Him - this lays at the heart of true worship.
